RECOMMENDATION
Motion to Approve the proposal from Bellecci & Associates for the Pedestrian Controlled Crosswalk Safety Project and authorize staff to enter into a negotiated Consultant Agreement with a not to exceed cost of $91,433.
BACKGROUND
The City Submitted a grant application for the Measure L Community Connection or Rail Services Grant. The proposed project will install one new pedestrian crosswalk, and upgrade another existing crosswalk with new pedestrian safety elements. The existing crosswalk on Sperry Ave/9th Street will be upgraded with mast arms, pedestrian activated crosswalk flashers, new paint striping, and ADA ramps, making the crosswalk more visible to drivers and safer for pedestrians. A new crosswalk will be constructed on Ward Ave/Mackilhaffy Dr with pedestrian activated crosswalk flashers. Expected benefits include safer access to StanRTA facilities and an increase in walking trips by residents of the surrounding Disadvantaged Community to nearby schools, grocery stores, health care centers, active recreation centers, and employment centers.
