BY: Jeffrey Frye, Interim Fire Chief
MEETING DATE: January 16, 2024
ITEM NO: 6.6
SUBJECT: Accept Donation of a Tiller Truck from Kern County to be used for Fire Department Training.

RECOMMENDATION
Motion to Accept Donation of a Tiller Truck from Kern County to be used for Fire Department Training.

BACKGROUND
The City of Patterson Fire Department received a Tractor-Drawn-Aerial apparatus “Tiller Truck” from Kern County on 11/29/2023, and the Fire Department would like to recognize Kern County for their donation of the Tiller Truck with a value of $5,000.

ANALYSIS
The Fire Department would like to recognize the donation of a tiller truck with a value of $5,000 from Kern County. The donated truck is a 1976 Seagrave Tractor Drawn Aerial that was originally purchased and used by the City of Los Angeles and then utilized by other fire departments as a training apparatus. The “Tiller” will be used to train Patterson Firefighters on how to drive and steer the rear wheels of this type of apparatus and become proficient at operating and maneuvering this type of vehicle so that when the new Tiller is delivered from Pierce Manufacturing in the 2 ½- 3 years, Fire personnel will be prepared to place it into service.

FISCAL IMPACT
The approximate fiscal impact for 2023-24 will be $3,000 for the towing cost, registration fees, and minimal vehicle supplies.
