NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
September 15, 2024 – October 15, 2024
WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month, first established as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson and expanded to a month-long celebration in 1988, recognizes the contributions and culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans; and
WHEREAS, this month serves as an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage, history, and traditions of the Hispanic and Latino communities, honoring their enduring contributions to our society; and WHEREAS, the Hispanic and Latino population, the largest ethnic group in the United States, plays an essential role in shaping the nation's future, contributing significantly to the economic, cultural, and social fabric of our country; and
WHEREAS, the diversity within the Hispanic and Latino community, which spans numerous countries, languages, customs, and traditions, enriches the American experience, adding to the vibrancy of our national identity; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino residents of Patterson have made a lasting and positive impact on our community through their dedication to hard work, strong family values, and a deep commitment to civic engagement; and
WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of people whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America, celebrating the unique blend of influences they bring to our nation; and
WHEREAS, the 2024 theme, Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together, highlights the trailblazing efforts of Hispanic and Latino Americans who continue to drive innovation and progress across all sectors of society; and
WHEREAS, this month provides an important platform to recognize and raise awareness of the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans in areas such as government, the military, civil rights, education, the arts, healthcare, sports, and entertainment, among many others; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that I, Michael Clauzel, by the virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Patterson, do hereby officially proclaim September 15, 2024 through October 15, 2024 as National Hispanic Heritage Month and call upon all citizens of the City of Patterson to learn more of the Hispanic culture, people, traditions and values that have positively enriched our community.
