Presentation reviewing the final conceptual design for the Centennial Park Project
BACKGROUND
The City of Patterson had originally contracted a scope of work with RHAA Landscape Architecture & Planning (RHAA) to provide a rendering of the site plan for the new Centennial Park, including the PJUSD Theater building. During the completion of the final park master plan design, PJUSD began the architectural design work for the District Theater. Upon completion of the theater design, it was realized that the site plan designed for the theater was much larger and in a different location than designated in the master plan. Therefore, due to the adjustment in the design size and location of the district’s theater, features designed within the Centennial Park Master Plan must be reallocated as well as adjustments made to landscaping, sidewalks, and playgrounds. In lieu of issuing a scope of work to update the Master Plan to RHAA, during the City Council meeting February 7, 2023, council requested this item be returned at a later date for further discussion.
At the March 21, 2023 City Council meeting, City Staff was directed to issue a request for proposals for the Centennial Park Conceptual Design, Final Design, and Community Center Preliminary Design. The RFP was advertised and the contract was subsequently awarded to the Melton Design Group, Inc. (MDG) at the November 7, 2023 City Council meeting.
ANALYSIS
The project kickoff meeting was held in December 2023. City Staff and MDG have engaged in regularly scheduled meetings as the conceptual plan options were refined. The first step in the design process was determining what had previously been accomplished and decided with the initial park master plan. City Staff and MDG reviewed the findings from the previously completed plan and the comments that were received from the community during the workshop.
From this analysis, the conceptual plans showing the various layouts were generated. These conceptual plans were presented to City Council in May 2024. City Council provided value input to be incorporated into the final design. The final design was a collaboration of the various layouts.
The next step will be to complete the design. The current estimated project schedule has design complete in Spring 2025.
This presentation will review the final layout that has been generated for Centennial Park.
