Sewer Lateral Replacement
In January, the Streets and Collections
Divisions continued their annual maintenance
route. This proactive approach is crucial for
keeping storm drains and sewer systems
clear, especially in preparation for severe
weather conditions. Above, a crew is shown
replacing a sewer lateral on Barros Street.
Parks Infrastructure
The Parks Infrastructure team worked on multiple
projects across the city, including preparing Felipe
Garza Park for the upcoming spring baseball
season. In the picture to the left, maintenance
crews are seen prepping the infield. Throughout
the month, the Parks Infrastructure team remained
busy at Felipe Garza Park, installing a new
irrigation system and reseeding the outfield to
ensure a lush, green field for baseball players to
enjoy this summer.
Annual Mistletoe Abatement Survey
In January, the city completes its annual
mistletoe abatement survey. Mistletoe is
harmful to trees and can affect the trees
growth and health. This year 120 City trees
and 13 private trees were identified as having
mistletoe. The City’s Urban Forestry Division
began removing the mistletoe from the City
trees and the private property owners were
notified about the mistletoe found on their
private trees. Residents were given until
February 4th to remove the mistletoe. If not
removed, the city will hire a licensed
contractor to abate the mistletoe, per City’s
Municipal Code Section 6.20 (Ordinance
174).
