City of Piedmont
COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
______________________________________________________________________________ DATE: April 17, 2023
TO: Mayor and Council
FROM: Rosanna Bayon Moore, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Consideration of the Establishment of an Ad Hoc Council Subcommittee for Facilities Renovation Needs and Next Steps
______________________________________________________________________________
RECOMMENDATION
Establish an ad hoc subcommittee consisting of the Mayor and Council Member Tom Ramsey to recommend action items to Council with reference to Piedmont Facilities Renovation Needs.
BACKGROUND
The City of Piedmont pursued the preparation of a Civic Center Master Plan in 2008. In 2017, efforts to specifically examine aging City facilities resumed in the area generally described as between the street segments of Highland Avenue and Hillside Avenue, Vista Avenue and Magnolia Avenue. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, further City action was delayed due to the magnitude of projected costs and an uncertain economic landscape. Since that time, the City’s focus has been and continues to be ensuring that facilities are safe and operational.
The creation of an ad hoc subcommittee would enable two Council Members to revisit the body of work completed to date, gather additional information and identify next steps. The subcommittee would be temporary in nature, meet for an initial period estimated at six months and return to the full Council with specific action items for consideration. Given interest expressed by Mayor Cavenaugh and Council Member Ramsey in a number of public meetings, their appointment is recommended.
