Good Morning City Council,
Thanks for all the work you do to help our city run smoothly.
I had the chance to look over the proposed modifications to the Division 17.36 of the Piedmont City Code related to signs. The majority of the proposed revisions seem reasonable and appropriate for our city.
I wanted to ask a question regarding the proposed new language in Section
17.36.040(A)(6) related to flags. Is a limit of two flags really necessary? As someone with flagpoles at my home, I occasionally fly more than two flags at a time.
As an example, on September 11, 2023, I flew the flag of the United States on one of my poles and the flags of the state of Virginia and the City of New York on the other in remembrance of the victims of the terrorist attacks which took place on that date in 2001. Under the proposed language, this would be prohibited.
I ask this question in the hope that the Council discusses this section of the proposed language and determine whether it really is necessary for our city.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
John O. Tulloch
