Mr. GonzalesHi my name is Lisa Neville. I live at Ave. My house sits directly across from the park. In my opinion closing the park is the right thing to do. It’s been a problem and dangerous for many years. You have my support as Well as my neighbors on Sunnyside.
I wish I had known about this meeting sooner. I just received the city’s letter at 6pm tonight.
I have spoken to my neighbors, they all received this letter this afternoon between 5:30 and 6pm.
Please consider in the future giving us a little more of a, “heads up." Thanks
Lisa Neville

I am writing you today to express my concern over Linda ave dog park. I live in Oakland, not in a very safe part of Oakland either. I work on piedmont ave and I work everyday, joyfully with the people and animals with in this neighborhood. Linda ave. Dog park is the only safe dog park I can bring my dog Khalo to. I don’t drive and this is the safest one within walking distance. Other dog parks in Oakland have glass and needles and holes in the fence and are not kept clean and the weeds and fox tails are rarely cut down. I have always had a pleasant time at Linda dog park. The people are nice, the dogs play well together. It is a crucial space to have not only for my khalo but for all the community doggos. Socializing properly is so important for our furrbabies and their happiness is linked to human happiness. I really urge you to protect this space. It is hard enough trying to find ways I can keep socializing my dog in Oakland as I want to her to be safe and have positive interactions. I can’t begin to describe the joy I feel when I bring her to the dog park. She looks forward to going there and she wears the biggest smile every time we go there. Please don’t take that away from us.

I received the letter about the planned permanent closure of the off-leash dog park, dated April 1, on April 8, after the meeting had taken place (having been away for the long weekend). Not helpful! I will also be out of town for the next Council meeting on this topic.
The letter doesn’t address what investment, if any, will be made to improve the area. I urge the City to improve this area with plantings commensurate with parks in other parts of town. Please down just leave it closed, fallow and an eyesore.
The same could be said for many of the parks and school planting areas in the neighborhood - way below par compared to those in other parts of town. Don’t have time to go out and document this, but guessing any who drove around and eyeballed would come to the same conclusion.
Thanks!

Good morning,
I became aware this morning of the effort to close Linda Dog Park, which I strongly oppose. Linda Park is a staple of the community for dog owners- I personally go there almost daily with my dog in the spring and summer months.
It is the only place in our neighborhood where he can play off leash and it has been a meaningful place for me to socialize and make friends with other dog owners. I understand there are some problems with the soil and pollutants but I assure you there are dozens of local dog owners who would willingly volunteer for park maintenance if it meant we could keep this place for our dogs to play. Please don’t get rid of this park without giving the community a chance. It means too much to too many people.
Sincerely,
Niki
