Dear Council Members,
RE: Consideration of Authorization for the City Administrator to Execute a Letter of Understanding (LOU) with the City of Oakland for Library Services for Fiscal Years 2026-28 with a one-time increase of 3% for a Total Amount of $360,985 I am writing in support of formalizing arrangements for the provision of library services to Piedmont residents through an agreement with the City of Oakland. I also support the increase in the annual payment (the first since 2008). Public library services are one of the municipal services enumerated in the Special Municipal Services Tax measure that Piedmont residents approved.
My family and many friends frequent branches near Piedmont to check out books and other materials for themselves, kids and grandkids. Free electronic resources include streaming video on Hoopla and Kanopy. Storytimes at local branches are very popular. The Piedmont Ave Branch storytimes (Tuesday mornings at 10AM, held just outside the library, weather permitting) regularly draw 100 or more babies, toddlers and parents/caregivers. We are fortunate to have an excellent public library system serving our community.
Thank you,
Winifred Walters
Piedmont resident
