Consideration of a Resolution Accepting the 2025 California Health and Safety Code Mandated Inspections Report

RECOMMENDATION
Approve a Resolution Accepting the 2025 California Health and Safety Code Mandated Inspections Report.

BACKGROUND
California Health and Safety Code Sections 13146.2 and 13146.3 requires regular fire and life safety inspections of all public and private schools, hotels, motels, lodging houses, and apartment houses. These inspections ensure various fire safety features are present and functioning correctly such as smoke detectors, extinguishers, and clear exits in structures where occupants are likely to be less familiar with fire safety procedures. The Piedmont Fire Department conducts these inspections citywide. Following fatal fires in other jurisdictions where it was not clear whether adequate fire inspections had been conducted, California Health and Safety Code Section 13146.4 now requires that fire departments report annually to their administering authority on compliance with Sections 13146.2 and 13146.3. Attachment B is the required report for 2026.
