Council,
Please say no to the Newton Plan for 1000 Bello street. Instead, look to sympathetic restoration, retrofit, and re-use. As example please look at what the city of Atascadero did with their huge brick rotunda building, and what the city of SLO did with their old gothic brick “sunny acres” juvenile hall behind the old general hospital.
What is the value of history? Well it’s subjective I suppose. But we’ve lost Alex’s forever (remember that uproar?)… and so many other beautiful buildings that made Pismo what it is today. We need to preserve some of Pismo’s historic buildings or it will end up looking like any town USA… new boring buildings with no character or history.
