Upcoming agenda item regarding Short Term Rental (STR) issues Dear City Council Members:

Please include my concerns with your review of Short Term Rentals (STRs) in our neighborhoods of Pismo Beach. In particular, the permit that was recently granted to 125 N.

Silver Shoals Dr. STRs are operated as a 'for profit business' and therefore, should be treated as a licensed business within the City of Pismo Beach. The potential loss of tax dollars (ie.Transient Occupancy Tax/Bed Tax) is a large factor, but also the impact to other City businesses and full time residents. Most STR landlords fail to remit those taxes even if it is required by law. It is my understanding the City of Pismo Beach has a one time license application, but I fail to see how the regulations can be enforced. For example, how does the City monitor and enforce that the owner reside in their home for at least half the year? The STR at 125 N. Silver Shoals Dr. does not seem to comply with many of your STR regulations or concerns for the residential neighborhood. No formal STR notification has been received by many residences on N. Silver Shoals Dr. Problems have already occurred in the neighborhood and complaints filed -with the City; more impact to City tax dollars.

I urge you to please consider the many issues of STRs in our residential areas and also consideration for the City businesses who provide tourist services and revenue.
