City of Pismo Beach - Administrative Services Department Monthly Report – June 2022
KEY REVENUES
Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT)
As of January 1, 2021, TOT revenues are 11% of gross lodging revenues. These revenues reflect approximately 54% of the City’s General Fund budgeted revenues. Preliminary data for May rentals indicate that May 2022 TOT revenues are $1,347,839 which is below the year ago May 2021 TOT revenues of $1,368,205 by $20,366, or -1.49%. Year-to-date TOT revenues for FY 2022 are $15,122,223, which is above the FY 2021 total of $12,305,407 by $2,816,816, or 22.89%. The increase in TOT revenues reflects a full year of the additional 1.0% TOT revenue in FY 2022 (Measure B-20 that was approved on November 3, 2020, increasing TOT from 10% to 11% of gross lodging revenues and effective January 2021), compared to only half a year of the additional 1% TOT in FY 2021. This increase is also due to an increase of tourism activity because of lessened COVID-19 restrictions and travel advisories and an increase of average nightly room rates. This is a preliminary amount as not all properties have reported. The following chart illustrates TOT revenues received in FY 2021 and FY 2022 by month.

Sales Tax Revenues
Sales tax revenues represent 1% of taxable sales received by the City. Fiscal year to date sales tax revenues through June 2022 amount to $3,298,685, which is above the year-ago total of $2,731,990 by $566,695 or 20.74% for the same period. Sales tax revenues are typically received 3 months after the month for which it was collected. For example, June revenues received are collected from March sales. The following chart illustrates sales tax revenues received in FY 2021 and FY 2022 by the month in which the sales tax was collected.
ECONOMIC INDICATOR
Consumer Price Index (CPI): For the Los Angeles/Riverside/Orange County area, the percent change in the CPI for the twelve months ending in May 2022 was 8.01%.

Administration/Vegetation Management
• The Fire Department has been awarded a $50,000 Office of Traffic Safety grant to replace the old hydraulic Jaws of Life on our front-line fire engine. The new tools are twice as strong, 1/3 lighter and takes seconds to set up instead of minutes. With a 41% increase in traffic collisions, this tool is badly needed for our community. Michelle worked not only with OTS but reached out to CAL TRANS, CHP and Pismo Police Department to gather the needed grant information to be successful.
• Week of June 1st- CAL FIRE Fuel Crews reduced fuel around the City and County Repeater sites on Ontario Ridge. The Crew is working to remove ladder fuels to keep a fire from jumping into the canopy and having access to damage the communications sites.
• The Annual Car Show went well for Fire Department. Many prevention contacts were made with over 65 inspections being completed each day. There was an uptick in calls for service at night, most were trips and falls. • The City Weed Abatement contractor has completed clearing all of the City owned lots and all of the private lots that were not in compliance. The letters with June 2022 Activity Report

the weed abatement charges have been sent out, there were 13 private lots that received letters. Overall, we are very pleased with the clearance work that was done to keep Pismo Beach fire safe.
Lifeguards/Junior Lifeguard Program
• The 2022 Lifeguard season began the last weekend of May. So far our Lifeguards have spent large amounts of time educating the public on rip currents and safety along with enforcing ordinances.
• Stats for the season so far

Water Rescues-10
• Week of June 27-the first 3 week session of Pismo Beach Junior Lifeguards started and although this was our first year of this schedule, we believe it to be a success. Many parents have said their kids are enjoying the first session so much, they would like to join the 2nd session.
