PISMO BEACH COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
Agenda Item #9.F

SUBJECT/TITLE:

PURCHASE OF TWO REPLACEMENT POLICE DEPARTMENT MOTORCYCLES

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a Resolution authorizing the purchase of two replacement Police Department motorcycles in the amount of $65,437.42 in Fiscal Year 2023.

BACKGROUND:

The Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Motor Vehicle Replacement Fund budget includes $77,000 for two BMW R 1250 RT-P motorcycles, enforcement-type, replacements for Police Department motorcycles PDHM1 and PDHM2.

These enforcement-type motorcycles are essential equipment needed for the Police Department to patrol the city. With the purchase of these enforcement-type motorcycles, safety and efficiency will increase as new motorcycles are more reliable, limiting down time from breakdowns, as well as maintenance and repair costs. The enforcement-type motorcycles must be ordered now as there is a significant delay in the manufacturing of vehicles due to COVID-19-related supply chain disruptions, with a current wait time of four months.

Staff was able to find enforcement type motorcycles under the State of California’s Department of General Services contract 1-19-23-30 (Attachment 2) with Long Beach BMW Motorcycles. The City’s Purchasing Policy authorizes “piggyback” purchases such as this one upon recommendation of the City Manager. The Long Beach BMW Motorcycles quote is provided as Attachment 1.A.

Conclusion and Recommendation
Staff recommends Council adopt a Resolution (Attachment 1) authorizing the purchase of two replacement Police Department motorcycles, enforcement-type, in the amount of $65,437.42.

Council Agenda 10-4-2022 9.F-1

Remaining Budget $11,562.58
