Making Price Historical Park THE
place to visit! Recent information re-
vealed that Price Park is #18 on the
best places to visit on the central coast.

An achievement considering all the
other choices residents and visitors
have. LaDean Talcott and her friendly do-
cents keep up a brisk pace responding to in-
creased tour requests and drop -ins.

The revitalized web page offers great infor-
mation. Well worth a peek

Five Cities Pismo Beach Rotary Club in
cooperation with the City installed a Victo-
rian style gazebo. The recent ribbon cutting
was a fantastic meeting with Rotary, Pismo
Beach Chamber of Commerce, the City and
FOPH.

Dave Daguerre and Paul Provence continue
maintaining the orchard.

Five Cities Rotary Eco trimmed around the
windmill and have a nursery of red gerani-
um cuttings maturing for planting. PLUS
every week, club member, Jodi Ramirez
works z days terracing the hillside butterfly
garden into what will be a serene haven.

Even with constant maintenance, shocking de-
terioration of both the Price House and Meherin
House causes deep concerns. Joseph Michael
Scott made a pilgrimage from his Delaware
home to spend 3 months working daily at the
park. He identified very serious deterioration.

He made progress, but structural damage is
alarming and needs immediate attention. Volun-
teers and funding are needed to continue these
critical repairs.

Sadly, the much anticipated Elegant Tea
has been postponed indefinitely.

The constant upkeep is made possible by the
valuable time invested by our super volunteers.

In addition volunteer docents spend hours study-
ing history of our City, the Price Family, the
houses and so much more to keep the tours inter-
esting and informative.

These dedicated volunteers provide labor
that amounts to savings that allow donated
funds to go farther. Has anyone bought
paint or caulking lately? Shocking! Neces-
sary support for these volunteer efforts
comes from donors who provide financial
contributions.

Success flourishes with all of us working to-
gether! Please consider volunteering and /
or making a generous gift.

During their regular monthly work days,
THANK YOU!

Price Family Inheritance and Then What Happened
by LaDean Talcott
John Price willed the Tri Gable House to his wife
Andrea, and then to his son John. John sold his inter-
est to the Carpenters. Irene Carpenter tried to pre-
serve the Adobes. Fire destroyed this structure in 1989.

The Anniversary House and the acreage included
went to the estate of daughter Mary Ann. Family
members lived in it for a while, and later it was rent- ed out to the Guggia and Silveria families, as well as
others.

Price Anniversary House Circa 1893
Who owned / occupied the Price House after the death of Mary Ann Meherin in r956 and Z982 when PVP development company subdivided the property? Her heirs? Anyone? Price Anniversary House Circa 1983
Abandoned in the late ig6o's, it stood battered by the weath- er, thoroughly vandalized, and badly deteriorated, almost de- stroyed. The land was sold to the PVP development company to build Pacific Estates. In 1983 the City of Pismo Beach ac- quired four acres including the house from PVP with the con- dition the land and historic house be set aside as a park.

In 1987, Fernie Miranda, a building contractor working in Pismo Heights, looked down from the bluff and saw an old house near Pismo Creek. While learning the history of this property, he developed a special feeling for the house and spearheaded an effort to restore the building and turn the area into an historic park.

A group was formed in iggi to generate money for the restora- tion. This group was officially organized as a non-profit corpo- ration known as the Friends of Price House, Inc. in April 1992.

Thirty years later, this organization continues to restore, pre- serve, and share the history of the Price Anniversary House.

Happy 30`h Anniversary to the Friends of Price House!
