Hello City Council,
This is Jeff Reynolds on Palomar Avenue in Shell Beach and resident since early 1990’s. We have 4 kids and have been trying to keep our house and pay for college and weddings and life. We have been conscientious Short Term Vacation Rental hosts and are licensed and are very intent on continuing to set a good example as hosts. I was invited to be on the Short Term Rental Task Force both times and served in an effort to help set some reasonable guidelines and accommodate all reasonable interests, and curtail bad hosts. I am sorry I cannot attend in person but our son is in the high school volleyball CIF playoffs right now. I feel like the Task Force came together under the very capable leadership of Jim Lewis and Matt Downing, and addressed the past and present and near future rules and goals with real attention to detail. There are only 26 licensed STR properties in a sea of second homes among the approximate 5800 residences. A couple bad operators are a bummer but a tiny number compared to all of the relentless noise and issues from construction, trucks, landscapers, barking dogs, and any other inconsiderate behavior that goes on. I always vet our guests, and typically arrange to meet them and remind them of the house and city rules with an eye on respectfulness. They are here to enjoy Pismo Beach for an important vacation or family event as tourists which is the primary focus of our visitors in a large home where they can have breakfast together without fixing their hair first. Kayaking, good coffee, and Joy nearby is an extra blessing. I am confident the new layer of rules will be another step forward in living and enjoying life here together. Thank you.
