RE: City Council July 18 meeting. item #12.E comments.
Some arguments against short term rentals may be weak or not consistent with the zoning laws. The usual arguments: they increase housing cost, they lead to noise, trash and nuisance complaints, they depreciate the neighborhood, they take away business from traditional hotels, they increase crime, AND courts across the nation are siding with the STR’s. Right now, there are real estate agents selling properties to hopeful new owners with the promise of making millions on these property as an STR.
One argument or issue that should be enough to limit the permitting of STR‘s is housing availability. Clearly STR’s take long-term rentals off the housing market and put them into short term rentals which does make long- term housing less available. If city of Pismo Beach is committed to affordability housing then they need to limit or not allow STR’s. STR’s are not good for our full time members of this community. There is already enough short term beds to rent from existing beach rental businesses. Let’s support them and not flood the market with STR’s.
Yes, 125 Silver Shoals Dr still continues to be rented as an STR.
