SUBJECT/TITLE:
CANCELLATION OF SEPTEMBER 19, 2023 COUNCIL MEETING
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution cancelling the September 19, 2023 Regular City Council Meeting.
BACKGROUND:
The League of California Cities (Cal Cities) will be holding its 2023 Annual Conference September 20—22, 2023, in Sacramento. On August 15, 2023, the Council adopted Resolution R-2023-060 appointing voting delegates for the conference.
As the conference convenes on the morning following what would be the regular Council meeting of September 19, 2023, it would be logistically prohibitive for the Mayor, Interim City Manager, and a number of Department Heads attending the conference to attend the evening Council meeting, then travel to the conference location in time for the first session the next morning. As such, staff recommends that the City Council cancel the meeting of September 19, 2023 to allow for travel to the conference destination. No time-sensitive items were projected for the September 19 agenda, and any remaining items will be rescheduled for the October 3, 2023 meeting. Pismo Beach Municipal Code Section
2.04.080 provides that regular meetings of the Council may be cancelled by action of a majority of the Council, and the attached Resolution will accomplish the cancellation.
Conclusion and Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Council adopt a Resolution (Attachment 1) cancelling the September 19, 2023 Council meeting to allow for travel to the conference location.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with staff’s recommendation. A slight cost savings is realized by not holding the September 19, 2023 regular Council meeting.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Do not adopt the resolution; hold the Regular Meeting.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PISMO BEACH, CALIFORNIA CANCELLING THE SEPTEMBER 19, 2023 REGULAR COUNCIL
MEETING
WHEREAS, the City of Pismo Beach wishes to participate in the 2023 League of California Cities Annual Conference by voting on League policy resolutions at the Annual Business Meeting; and
WHEREAS, the conference begins in the morning following the projected regular City Council meeting of September 19, 2023, which is logistically prohibitive due to the conference being located in Sacramento; and
WHEREAS, the regular meeting date of September 19, 2023 lacks any business of immediate concern.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Pismo Beach hereby cancels the regular City Council meeting of September 19, 2023.
