A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PISMO BEACH, CALIFORNIA RECOGNIZING JUNE 19, 2024 AS “JUNETEENTH DAY” WHEREAS, Juneteenth has become the harbinger of the ending of the institution of slavery in this great nation; and
WHEREAS, Juneteenth embodies the indomitable human spirit of the past, in the present, and all time; and
WHEREAS, the celebration of Juneteenth gives us all the opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the true American spirit; and
WHEREAS, the San Luis Obispo branch of the NAACP will be holding its seventh annual Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 15, 2024; and
WHEREAS, we are citizens that wish to secure the blessings of freedom, justice, and equality for all in this great City of ours; and
WHEREAS, the collaboration of community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and local businesses, and local government are committed to being part of the solution and guidance in continuing the struggle for freedom, justice, and equality for all.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Pismo Beach hereby proclaims June 19, 2024, as “Juneteenth Day” and recommends that all citizens of Pismo Beach join in recognizing the importance of this day.
