Hi, my name is Vicki Van Dykhoff. That's Vicki VAN Space DEN Space Capital EIKHOF. I'm with Smartshare Housing Solutions and I'm calling in regards to the grant funding that's going to be awarded and discussed today, August 20th. On behalf of the Board of Directors of Smarter Housing Solutions, I'd like to thank the council members for their consideration of Home Share Slows funding request. Home Share Slow is a program of smart Shared housing solutions and has facilitated matches between providers, people with an extra room and seekers people seeking housing since 2016. Home Sharing provides extra income and security for home providers, and it creates a safe, affordable home for persons in need of housing at monthly rents an average of $1000 below market rate. Elders are the fastest growing category of people experiencing homelessness, with an 84% increase since 2017. Preventing homelessness is much less costly and more humane than dealing with its sad consequences. The City's investment of funding for Home Share Slow since 2019 has been returned 10 times over to Pismo Beach residents, matched by the program with $181,000 in rental income for providers and rent savings for seekers, to say nothing of the benefits of improved social connection. Isolation is now recognized as a health risk as dangerous as obesity as or smoking. We appreciate the Council's support of Home Share Slows housing work and look forward to continuing to serve Pismo.
