Subject: Support for Transferring the Chapman Estate to the Chapman Estate Foundation Date: Friday,February 14,2025 12:47:18 PM
Dear Honorable Members of the Pismo Beach City Council, I am writing to express my strong support for transferring the Chapman Estate to the nonprofit Chapman Estate Foundation to ensure its preservation and continued public use. As the grand- niece of Clifford Chapman, whose generosity led to this estate becoming a cherished part of the community, I feel a deep personal connection to its legacy and the vision my great-uncle had for its future.
It is my understanding that the City is considering divesting the property. Given this reality, I urge the Council to transfer ownership to the Chapman Estate Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is fully committed to maintaining and protecting the estate for future generations. Doing so would:
• Preserve the historic and cultural significance of the Chapman Estate while keeping it accessible for community events and public enjoyment.
• Ensure responsible stewardship by entrusting the estate to an organization dedicated to its care, relieving the City and taxpayers of ongoing financial responsibilities. • Honor Clifford Chapman's original intent by maintaining the estate as a landmark that enriches Pismo Beach rather than allowing it to be lost or repurposed in a way that diminishes its value to the community.
The Chapman Estate is more than just a property—it is a piece of our shared history and an iconic treasure that deserves to be protected. My great-uncle's gift to the City was a testament to his love for this community, and it is my sincere hope that his legacy can live on through the Chapman Estate Foundation.
I respectfully ask that you take the necessary steps to transfer the property to the Chapman Estate Foundation so that it may continue to serve the public in the way Clifford Chapman envisioned.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your leadership and your commitment to preserving the heritage of Pismo Beach.
Sincerely,
Shawn Jarolimek
