Pismo Beach Council Members
This is in response to the coming meeting regarding the Chapman Estate. Let me tell you why I support the Chapman Estate. As a new resident in Shell Beach in 1996, I happened to drive by and noticed an event open to the public would be taking place. I couldn't believe the owners would invite the public onto their spectacular property but they did and I was thrilled to be able to attend. I was so impressed with the architecture,the view,the grounds, everything, so I wrote a thank you note to Clifford Chapman thanking him for the privilege of being able to enjoy his spectacular home.
Much to my surprise I received a personal invitation to the next event at the Chapman Estate. We were able to view the inside of the estate plus enjoy food and music entertainment. For a new resident to be welcomed like that, it just made you feel so good to be living here.
This property needs to be kept in the community and open for public enjoyment. The estate aligns with Pismo's goals of preserving coastal access, enhancing tourism and investing in community spaces. I urge the Council to transfer management to the Chapman Estate Foundation. This needs to be available to both residents and visitors so we can all enjoy this iconic piece of our community.
