Subject: Special Meeting on City Fees
External Email
Good Morning,
The Pismo Beach Chamber would like to bring an issue to light for City Council consideration regarding the fees for parking fines. I am unable to attend today in person to make these comments and wanted to provide this via email.
We have received numerous complaints and there are many negative social media discussions regarding the$80 fine for expired parking meters or nonpayment of parking fees.
While we are in complete agreement with the fine for failure to pay parking fees, the fee of$80 when the paid parking has expired seems excessive and punitive.
The feedback that we have received is many have received this fine when they are less than 15 minutes late in getting back to their vehicles. Mostly due to a delay in getting out of one of our local businesses. We would like to suggest a grace period of 15 minutes before a fine is given.
Also, potentially a reduced fee for expirations within one hour. Possibly$40 or$50.Anything after the hour would be subject to the$80 fine.
We believe that this change could positively impact those who are visiting our city and supporting our local businesses. It would be a good-will gesture on behalf of the City in acknowledging sometimes it takes us a little longer to have a meal or shop at a local business.
We believe it would go a long way to help curb the negativity around our City's parking fines.
Thank you for your consideration.
