Firing your former counsel was definitely the right thing to do. He was a horrible and unethical attorney who should have advised his clients to settle more cases than you fought, but he took advantage of the poor management at Pismo Beach. A managers job FIRST and FOREMOST is to manage and minimize risk. I advise you to look at your two managers who manage the most risk in Pismo Beach, the chief of police and the city manager, and honestly answer this question: how well have these two managers managed risk? I give them big fat F’s. The legal spending and settlement numbers speak for themselves. I don’t know what those two have been telling you, but I’ll say this: numbers don’t lie, people do. If you want bad legal cases to stop popping up, get better managers. At some point, this point, I’m beyond asking where is the council during all this? It wouldn’t be risky to assert that the council is remiss in doing something about the poor managers before them. It’ll cost much less to get rid of bad management than keeping them around at this point. Don’t believe me? Just look at your legal spending and settlements.
