Attn: Pismo Beach Mayor, Ed Waage and City Council Members RE: Resolution to change the name of Palisades Park to Mary Ann Reiss Park Hello Mayor Waage and City Council Members,
On behalf of our Chamber Board, we want to express our strong support for the resolution to rename Palisades Park in honor of Mary Ann Reiss.

Mary Ann’s contributions to Pismo Beach are measured not simply in years of service, but in the lasting impact she has had on our community.

In 2004, she became Pismo Beach’s first directly elected mayor, and her commitment to our city continued through decades of service on the City Council. But her leadership extended far beyond our city limits. She represented Pismo Beach at the regional lev el through organizations including the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments, the San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority, and the Air Pollution Control District, and she served as an alternate to the California Coastal Commission.

Her service also extended into areas that may not always be visible to the public but have a meaningful impact on our city. Through her longtime leadership on the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority Executive Committee, Mary Ann advocated workplace safety, risk management, and responsible practices that benefited the City and its employees.

But perhaps most importantly, Mary Ann represents what public service is supposed to be.

She gave her time, her experience, and her leadership to Pismo Beach because she cared deeply about this community and the people who call it home. Her service spans decades, and her impact can be seen in the strength and character of the community we have today.

Renaming Palisades Park as Mary Ann Reiss Park would be more than changing a sign. It would create a lasting reminder of a woman who dedicated so much of her life to serving Pismo Beach.

It would allow future generations—residents and visitors alike—to see her name and learn about the legacy of leadership, commitment, and public service that she represents.

On behalf of the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce and our Board of Directors, we respectfully and enthusiastically ask the City Council to support this resolution.

Mary Ann gave decades of service to Pismo Beach. Honoring her with a place that belongs to the entire community is a fitting tribute to that legacy.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
