Agenda Item #12.B
Dear Honorable Mayor and City Council members,
I am writing to express my strong support of the transfer of the Chapman Estate (real property - 1243 Ocean Blvd., Shell Beach) to the Chapman Estate Foundation.

The proposed transfer represents an important opportunity to place this property in the hands of an organization whose mission is aligned with the long term interests of our whole community.

The Chapman Foundation has demonstrated its commitment to honor Clifford Chapmans' wishes, supports the local community, preserves historic resources, advances cultural and civic programs (i.e. Pride Brunch through the Community Foundation of SLO), and much more.

Allowing the Chapman Estate Foundation to assume ownership and responsibility for the property will provide a meaningful opportunity to enhance and preserve its value for public benefit.

This transfer is consistent with sound stewardship of public assets. Rather than allow the property to remain underutilized or imposing continued costs and responsibilities on the City, transferring the property to The Chapman Estate Foundation can crate a pathway for productive use, investment, maintenance, and community benefit. The Chapman Estate Foundation's involvement provides the potential for the property to serve a clearly defined public purpose while leveraging private philanthropic resources.

Transfer of the Chapman Estate to the Chapman Estate Foundation offers the prospect of a lasting community benefit. The proposed use will help ensure that this property continues to serve an important purpose and that its' value is preserved for the benefit of our current and future residents.

Thank you for your consideration and your service to our community.

Respectfully,
Shey hissbathan
Shelly Higginbotham
Former Mayor
Pismo Beach resident
