I have been surfing Pismo Beach for over 30 years. Sixty years total surfing the coastline of California. In all of my years of surfing I've never seen such an increase of great whites. I lost a colleague Debbie Franzman, swimming off the end of Avila pier years ago when the Great White population was smaller. Since the pandemic the surfing population of Pismo Beach has grown exponentially along with a great white population off our coast. Now the local fishermen are catching sharks off the pier and bleeding them out by hanging them off the end of the pier. These factors are a perfect storm for an accident. We do not need another loss of life on our coast when we can take measures to reduce an encounter.

Thank you for your time,
Blake English Arroyo Grande, California.
