To whom it may concern,
Pismo beach pier fishermen have recently been catching many threshers sharks at the end of the pier. The practice, often seen afterward, is to gut the sharks organs and dump them into the ocean, then hanging the body from the railing by the tail, with the body bobbing/ floating in the ocean. This potentially lures in more sea life. I believe this can be termed as chumming.
Many beach enthusiasts worry about this practice. My entire family, including my 13 and 15 year old, enjoy surfing at Pismo Beach. I’m uncertain which laws may be in question, but I imagine this is not a practice which should occur so close to swimmers, surfers, and beach goers.
I understand this to be up for review, and I myself believe it should be investigated for its lawfulness and safety.
Please feel free to email me with any further questions.
Thank you for your consideration,
Dan Swain
