General Public comment for September 15th Pismo Beach City Council meeting:
Council members,
Here's what was shown on the council's September 1st agenda:
Item 12.B:Renaming Palisades Park to Mary Ann Reiss Park (Garcia) Recommendation:
Adopt a Resolution renaming Palisades Park to Mary Ann Reiss Park.
Here's what's in the draft minutes from the September 1st meeting (to be potentially adopted at the September 15th meeting):
Item 12.B: Renaming Palisades Park to Mary Ann Reiss Park (Garcia) Recommendation: Adopt a Resolution renaming Palisades Park to Mary Ann Reiss Park.
Presenting staff: Jorge Garcia, City Manager
Call for public comment: Iris Swisher commented.
Jeanette Vierra commented.
David Jewell commented.
Action:
1. Adopt a Resolution renaming South Palisades Park to Mary Ann Reiss Park;
2. Direct staff to investigate the feasibility of preparing plaques to provide historical context on the namesakes of City parks that are named after individuals.
Council Agenda 9-15-2026
(Bold type added by me for emphasis)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------
Clearly, the council's action does not match the agenda item for its September 1st meeting.
The action on the agenda was not "Adopt a Resolution renaming South Palisades Park to Mary Ann Reiss Park" and there was nothing on the agenda about plaques. So, the council should direct staff to remedy the error by:
Editing the draft minutes from the September 1st meeting to show "No Action" for Item
12 B: Renaming Palisades Park to Mary Ann Reiss Park. (It's true because the council didn't rename Palisades Park)
Placing the "Renaming of South Palisades Park to Mary Ann Reiss Park" and "investigate the feasibility of preparing plaques to provide historical context on the namesakes of City parks that are named after individuals" on a future agenda.
These actions would recognize the neighbors and visitors of South Palisades Park, and those who might want to comment about historical context plaques, have the same rights which were granted by the council and staff to the neighbors and visitors of Palisades Park on the September 1st agenda.
If you'd like to discuss the issue, I'm available.
