DISCUSSION:
On July 19, 2022, the City Council awarded a construction contract to Martinez Concrete, Inc (MCI), in the amount of $175,050.00 for the installation of 20 new ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant curb ramps in various locations in the City. This project also included all ancillary work including installation of truncated domes, sidewalk, curb, gutter and/or asphalt repairs.
During the course of construction for this project, it was determined that three bid items were no longer necessary (cross gutter, sign & post relocating, and survey markers) in order to install the ADA compliant ramps at 20 locations. There was also a number of quantity adjustments for sidewalks, curb and gutters, and AC pavement work performed by the Contractor. Balancing Contract Change Order No. 1 resulted in a total credit amount of $40,940.00, or a reduction in the construction contract amount of 23%. This Change Order is attached for City Council's approval.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The final construction cost plus the deductive change order amounts to $134,110.00. This cost consists of the bid amount submitted by Martinez Concrete Inc. in the amount of $175,050.00 and the $40,940.00 credit for the adjustment of bid items and quantities. Also, the 10% contingency amount of $17,505.00 was not needed. A total amount of $192,600.00 was available and budgeted in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022-23 Capital Improvement Program Budget for this project.
As such, sufficient funds exist for the recommended actions.
