Members of the Placerville City Council and Staff members:

I wish to endorse and support two items on the July 12th agenda.

First, item 12.2.

The use of goats to help reduce the amount of excessive and combustible vegetation is a welcome move.

As you are so well aware, a great deal of Placerville is covered in dry, acumulating vegetative material, thus making us all more vulnerable to wildfire. Iam so grateful staff has pursued this funding opportunity to increase the safety of Placerville neighborhoods and residents. I sincerely hope you will also be able to fund the other at-risk parcels in the very near future.

Second, Item 12.3.

After observing the Highway 50 "Trip to Green" strategy during the Caldor calamity, I was highly impressed with its effectiveness. Because our home is in the heart of the older part of Placerville, we had the opportunity to observe the flow on the highway and surface streets, both, during that period. While, obviously, traffic was slow, it kept moving, and those of us in the residential areas, were still able reach local destinations when we needed to.

I understand there was a great deal of community skepticism before the strategy was implemented, but despite the circumstances of the last year's sudden implementation, I feel the interim approach has shown itself to be, potentially, a life-saving one. I am grateful you are pursuing this remedy for a tremendously difficult problem.

Thank you all for the work that has made these proposals possible, Marian Washburn

I am writing regarding the request to rename the Placerville post office. Recognizing the ultimate sacrifice of Deputy Brian Ishmael and his entire family and delicate nature of this request.

From the information in the Staff report, I would not support the request. Post office buildings represent a place of community and should proudly carry that identity. It's the Placerville Post Office. ( Perhaps a small plaque is being proposed? I'm assuming a large outdoor sign change.)
If you inspect the site you'll find years of deferred maintenance. Dead landscaping, peeling paint, tall weeds, broken sidewalks and parking lots. Sadly, the facility presents a terrible image to visitors, postal customers and employees.

Allow me to offer an alternative, instead of renaming Placerville's post office, I would ask Congressman McClintock to sponsor a funding request in Deputy Ishmael's name. The funding assigned to the much needed Placerville Public Safety Building project. Perhaps several million dollars towards a facility I'm sure "Ish" would proudly support.

This new joint facility is made possible by the cooperative relationship between the El Dorado County Fire District and Placerville Police Department. I would hope the Congressman would appreciate the wise use of our tax dollars for a joint facility that will serve Placerville for decades. One that that will reduce costs and greatly improve service to the community and region. The positives are too numerous to list here.

These issues are never easy. Thank you for your time and service in considering my concerns.

Cordially yours,
Mark Acuna

Re: Item #12.4 (Letter of Support for 'Deputy Brian Ishmael Post Office') Dear Mayor Taylor & Councilmembers:

Thank you for your dedicated service to the constituents of the City of Placerville. As an 8th- generation citizen of El Dorado County, local businessman, County Supervisor, and a personal family friend of the Ishmael family for nearly 50 years, I fully support H.R. 6276. I applaud Congressman McClintock's efforts for renaming the Placerville United States Post Office in honor of our local hero, fallen Deputy Brian Ishmael.

This will be a great honor and tribute to a young man who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the community he loved so much. This is a non-partisan endeavor, that should receive your Council's unanimous support.
