Comments: City Council 13 Dec 2022 -
Sue Rodman, Placerville resident and voter
What is the meaning of Nonpartisan?
Webster's definition reads: Not controlled or influenced by, or supporting any single political party. Our election ballots support this concept and state that some elected positions are nonpartisan, including city council positions.

There is no political party designation with those candidate names, because they are not supposed to be supported or influenced by any political party. Those positions are specifically identified as "nonpartisan"
The flyers mailed to many of us from the county Republican Party Committee supporting specific City Council candidates, and against only one candidate, if not illegal, were certainly unethical.

If I had been any of those candidates, I would have immediately withdrawn from the 2022 City Council election. For those who did not, we can all wonder who you really report to and care about, probably not Placerville's citizens.

Most egregious of all was Congressman McClintock sending a mailer against the only sitting City Council member running for re-election.

Why? Because the city did not support McClintock's effort to re-name the Placerville Post Office. This is an extreme example of partisan pettiness and misuse of political power.

I am outraged that my 2022 hometown City Council election became a victim of political maneuvering.

City of
Placerville Regina O'Connell <[email protected]> Urging the adoption of MOU for Temporary Shelter
Paul Godwin <[email protected]> Tue, Dec 13, 2022 at 4:21 PM To: Regina O'Connell <[email protected]>, Cleve Morris <[email protected]> Cc: Pathways Program <[email protected]>
Dear City Council,
I urge you to Adopt the Resolution Ratifying a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Placerville and Housing El Dorado for use of Scout Hall for a temporary Inclement Weather overnight Warming Center.

The work of Housing El Dorado, the Upper Room and The Pathways Program, of Nichole Paine and all the volunteers to get Scout Hall and accompanying shuttles up and running has been extraordinary, necessary and timely just as our inclement weather began. The Scout Hall location, while not perfect, is fulfilling a very real need for our Unhoused population at this time. I urge you to continue to allow the use of Scout Hall until such time as the Navigation Center is fully operational.

On a personal level as I spoke with some of the folks on the street - their first requests were for sleeping bags and socks - they reminded me of how tired they are and that getting a decent night's sleep is one of the most difficult aspects of being on the street. At least the temporary shelter can address this need in the worst of conditions until such time as weather is better or the Navigation Center comes online.

Thank you for your empathy and concern for our Unhoused population! Warmest Regards,
Paul Godwin
Placerville Resident
