And also I know a lot of homeless people that can't afford a $10 pack of cigarettes the cheaper packs the the stores have you know they'll sell them to them so not everybody has a bunch of money to be able to afford a lot of stuff On Nov 8, 2024 3:11 PM, Curtis Hayes <[email protected]> wrote:

Placerville City Council Public Comment <[email protected]> Tobacco Ordinance Comments
Victoria Moore <[email protected]> Fri, Nov 8, 2024 at 7:53 PM To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To City Council,
I oppose this tobacco retail ordinance because it will significantly raise the prices of products that my family, friends, and I use, especially at a time when the cost of everything else has already increased so much in the past few years, further straining our I personally quit smoking cigarettes by switching to tobacco flavored single use e-cigarettes, which this ordinance also bans. As a result, I, along with many others, may be forced to go back to smoking cigarettes. This will only result in the residents spending more money or driving to Sacramento to buy these products and hurt local businesses.
Sincerely,
Victoria Moore

Amanda Scudder <[email protected]> Sun, Nov 10, 2024 at 1:00 AM To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Hello, I am Amanda, a long time Placerville resident and I do not support this new law. The state has already banned flavored vapes, but my understanding is that this law will also ban tobacco flavored disposable vapes that I have switched to since the flavor ban took effect. I also use marijuana disposable vapes that come in flavors like strawberry and banana that I purchase at both of the dispensaries in our city, so why is that allowed but I can't even buy a tobacco flavored nicotine vape now? I would like to hear the councils' comments on their reasoning behind this because marijuana is also addictive and attracts children.
Thank you

N. Stanley <[email protected]> Sun, Nov 10, 2024 at 12:07 PM To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> You are hiding an anti-smoking clause among other issues under consideration which can only be described as the devious method of cowards whose purpose is to both marginalize and criminalize persons YOU deem unsuitable for YOUR community. In addition, you desire to achieve profits by such an act, raising your unqualified holding of seats on our City Council to a new level of disgust.
At the same time you all actively support an annual Oktoberfest, sending drunk drivers onto our streets and beyond; if you think to justify this by limiting the number of drinks an attendee may purchase, think again: this does not deter the majority of drinkers who consume who knows how much liquor BEFORE arriving on Main Street! Better to levy a tax on their consumption, thereby saving innocent victims of their vehicular crimes.
I resent the fact that you are curtailing my rights and criminalizing me in My state! My near ancestors arrived in California by 1870; others (Ethan Allen and his brother Ira Allen) fought in the War of Independence well before the rise of George Washington and a standing army; a number of ancestors were officers in the Union Army and others have fought in every conflict since to the present day. Where were YOUR ancestors during all of this?
I promise you this: if you pass this bill WITHOUT removing its covert anti-smoking regulation, I will personally organize and be a visible participant in an entire series of Smoke-Ins. I understand that there is a law prohibiting smoking within a certain distance from any government office-be assured, I have already thought of a way around THAT! Oh, and I am quite willing to be arrested over this issue and will welcome my day in court.-

Placerville City Council Public Comment <[email protected]> Changes to cigarette sales
Andrea Stanley <[email protected]> Sun, Nov 10, 2024 at 2:51 PM Reply-To: Andrea Stanley <[email protected]>
To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Please vote "no" on the changes to tobacco sales. This city has far more important issues than tobacco products. It is discriminatory to treat smokers like criminals. They are already taxed a significant amount by the state. This "bill" will raise prices a lot. It will also impact many businesses in town...businesses who pay property taxes. If this is for health reasons as you claim, then what about the health impacts of alcohol consumption. Every five minutes, a new winery, brewery, or distillery, or bar is opening up. Alcohol is also a carcinogen. What about DUls. This proposed change to tobacco sales is shameless cash grab. We will vote accordingly in the next local election if this "bill" passes. Remember that.

Stanley William <[email protected]> Tue, Nov 12, 2024 at 10:53 AM To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> This is Stanley Williams. I don't think the city should approve this law because it will increase the price of products I use all the time. The government needs to stop acting like it has to babysit adults. The election results clearly show the majority of the people want less government interference in their lives and why is buying marijuana becoming easier then buying tobacco?

Noah Lane <[email protected]> Tue, Nov 12, 2024 at 1:59 PM To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> The city council should not increase the prices on tobacco products or ban e-cigarettes. Plus the native owned red hawk gas station is still allowed to sell menthol cigarettes since state law doesn't apply to them and that is where I and many others have been buying it from. Only going to affect local businesses.
