RESOLUTION NO. -22
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANT HILL RECOGNIZING JUNE 2022 AS LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER, QUEER OR QUESTIONING, PLUS (LGBTQ+) PRIDE MONTH IN THE CITY OF PLEASANT HILL WHEREAS, the City of Pleasant Hill has a diverse Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Plus (LGBTQ+) community and is committed to supporting visibility, dignity, and equity for all people in the community; and WHEREAS, many of the residents, students, employees, and business owners within the City of Pleasant Hill who contribute to the enrichment of our City are part of the LGBTQ+ community; and
WHEREAS, advancements have been made with respect to equitable treatment of LGBQ+ persons throughout the nation, and in Pleasant Hill, there remain opportunities to increase support for our LGBTQ+ residents; and
WHEREAS, June has become a symbolic month in which LGBTQ+ persons, and supporters, come together in various celebrations of pride; and WHEREAS, cities across the United States recognize and celebrate June as LGBTQ+ Pride month; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pleasant Hill feels it remains important to communicate its support for inclusivity and respect in our City, and desires to recognize and celebrate June as LGBTQ+ Pride month; and
WHEREAS, the Rainbow Flag, also known as the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag or Gay Pride Flag, has been used since the 1970s as a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and social movements; and WHEREAS, flying the City’s Rainbow Flag at City Hall throughout the month of June further symbolizes Pleasant Hill’s official recognition of June as LGBTQ+ Pride month, reflects the City of Pleasant Hill’s viewpoint, and symbolizes the City’s celebration of diversity and support for the LGBTQ+ community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Pleasant Hill does hereby declare the month of June 2022 as LGBTQ+ Pride month in the City of Pleasant Hill, and direct staff to fly a Rainbow Flag at City Hall throughout the month of June. [Signatures on the Following Page]
