RE: Pleasant Hill City Council Support for Choice in Aging Senior Housing and its Infill Infrastructure Grant (IIG-2019) Funding Application
To Whom It May Concern,
The Pleasant Hill City Council enthusiastically supports the development of Choice in Aging Senior Housing, an 82-unit senior housing development for seniors and formerly homeless veterans, to be located at 490 Golf Club Road. The Council also supports the project’s 2022 Infill Infrastructure Grant (IIG-2019) funding application and intends for this letter to help the project qualify as an eligible applicant per Section 206(a)(2)(A) of the 2022 IIG guidelines.

Our city has already provided a $2,736,000 loan to Choice in Aging Senior Housing, which will serve households earning thirty to sixty percent of the area median income.

The developer, Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA), is a non-profit agency committed to providing affordable, service-enriched housing that promotes healthy and dignified living for people with limited options. By combining quality property management and supportive resident services, SAHA will be able to address the needs of the residents of Choice in Aging Senior Housing.

Choice in Aging Senior Housing is one component of a plan to redevelop a four-acre site owned by the senior services nonprofit, Choice in Aging (CiA). CiA was established in 1949 to provide Adult Day Health Care services for frail adults, elders, and persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. CiA offers referral resources to the local community, and support services to caregivers and family members of frail elders. CiA’s current building was constructed in 1949, and is in need of major repairs.

The redevelopment of CiA’s site into a greater Aging in Place Campus will serve additional seniors in new facilities, expand CiA’s intergenerational program with their Choice in Learning preschool, and provide independent living through Choice in Learning Senior Housing. SAHA will be responsible for the financing, construction, property management, and resident services for Choice in Aging Senior Housing, as well as associated site work.

Sincerely,
Michael G. Harris, OD
Mayor
