PROJECT PROJECT DESCRIPTION:This program funds the installation of new pedestrian and bicycle improvements at high prirotiy areas in the City. The objective of the program is to make our streets safer for pedestrians and bicyclists. The program targets areas adjacent to schools and senior care facilities as a priority. The project is based on the City's first bicycle and pedestrian master plan, which will help assess the needs of bicyclists and pedestrians in the City. The master plan identifies a citywide network of bikeways, pedestrian routes, and education programs, and it will also suggest various bicycle and pedestrian related improvements (for future implementation) and potential implementation strategies that will encourage more residents to walk and bike in the City. A draft Master Plan document will be scheduled for review by the Planning Commission before it is approved by City Council concurrently with the City's General Plan Update. See attached 5-year project plan for project priorities. The City's current backlog of new sidewalk and bike improvements within the City is estimated to be $25 million per the 2021 Final Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan.
