AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANT HILL REPEALING AND REPLACING SECTION 2.20 (CITY TREASURER) OF THE PLEASANT
HILL MUNICIPAL CODE TO REFLECT THE CHANGE FROM AN ELECTED POSITION
TO AN APPOINTED POSITION AS APPROVED BY PLEASANT HILL VOTERS AT THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF NOVEMBER 8, 2022, AND DELEGATING THE
AUTHORITY TO APPOINT THE CITY TREASURER TO THE CITY MANAGER WHEREAS, the City Council voted to place Measure M, “Shall the office of City Treasurer be appointive,” on the ballot for the November 8, 2022 General Municipal Election; and WHEREAS, a majority of Pleasant Hill voters approved Measure M at the November 8, 2022 General Municipal Election held in the City of Pleasant Hill, making the office of city treasurer an office appointed by the city council rather than an elected position; and WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 108-22 declaring the official results of the General Municipal Election; and
WHEREAS the City Council desires to delegate the authority to appoint the city treasurer to the city manager; and
WHEREAS, section 2.20.010 (Position) of the Pleasant Hill Municipal Code currently states that the city treasurer shall be an elected office; and WHEREAS, section 2.20.020 (Compensation) of the Pleasant Hill Municipal Code currently states that the city treasurer is entitled to compensation fixed by resolution of the city council.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Pleasant Hill does ordain as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 2.20 (City Treasurer) of the Pleasant Hill Municipal Code is repealed and replaced in its entirety with the following text of Chapter 2.20:
“Chapter 2.20
CITY TREASURER
2.20.010 Position.
“The city treasurer shall be appointed by the city manager.” Section 2. This ordinance shall be effective 30 days after its adoption.
Section 3. Within fifteen days after the passage of this ordinance, the City Clerk shall cause it to be posted in the three places designated by resolution of the City Council.
The foregoing ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Pleasant Hill held on the 20th day of May, 2024.
