RESOLUTION NO. -24
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE LEGAL
SERVICES AGREEMENTS WITH PUBLIC AGENCY LAW FOR GENERAL CITY
ATTORNEY SERVICES, WITH JANET COLESON AS THE DESIGNATED CITY
ATTORNEY, WITH BEST BEST & KRIEGER (BBK) FOR SPECIAL COUNSEL LEGAL
SERVICES AND TERMINATING THE CURRENT LEGAL SERVICES
AGREEMENT WITH BBK
WHEREAS, the City of Pleasant Hill entered into an agreement with Best Best & Krieger (BBK) for legal services in April of 2015 with Janet Coleson as the designated City Attorney and amended that agreement in 2018 to provide for a modest rate increase; and WHEREAS, the City Council has been notified that BBK is requesting a substantial rate increase effective for the 2024-25 fiscal year; and
WHEREAS the City Council desires to engage the services of Public Agency Law (PAL) with Janet Coleson as the designated City Attorney, to provide general City Attorney Legal Services to the City of Pleasant Hill; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to engage the services of BBK for specialized legal services and any overflow general services on an as needed basis and terminate the existing legal services agreement.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Pleasant Hill that the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to take the following actions:
1) execute a legal services agreement with Public Agency Law (PAL) for general City Attorney legal services with Janet Coleson as the designated City Attorney, effective on July 19, 2024; 2) execute a legal services agreement with Best Best & Krieger (BBK) for specialized legal services and any overflow general legal services on an as needed and on-call basis, effective on July 19, 2024; and
3) terminate the existing legal services agreement with BBK, effective on July 19, 2024.
