SUBJECT: Letter of Support for Assembly Bill (AB) 2517
Assemblymember Lisa Calderon has introduced AB 2517, a bill to improve the Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) designation process conducted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
AB 2517 requires revised timelines for public notice of any proposed changes to local FHSZ designations, plus the posting of information online and the conducting of regional workshops to solicit public comment, and the subsequent consideration of and response to those comments through a written public comment period.
Cal Cities issued a statewide “Action Alert” message to its member cities, including Pleasant Hill, urging letters of support for this Cal Cities-sponsored legislation that ensures consistent and timely updates to the local responsibility area FHSZ maps, as noted in the letter of support.
