Dear Bill,
I wanted to follow up with a summary of what was discussed and agreed upon regarding configuration of a 65' foot section of roadway to provide adequate protection for the water main. The location is between the stairs at 115 Mill Street and the stairs at 117 Mill Street.
Point Arena Water Works (PAWW) and SHN Engineering both inspected the current water line and found it in good repair.
In areas where 30" of cover cannot be achieved as determined in the field by both PAWW crews and SHN's inspector, Granite will provide a 5" thick asphalt cap that extends 2.5' to the north and south of the water main alignment. As requested, 6" of sand will be used to bed the pipe before placing class 2 base rock at varying depths within the trench. Geogrid fabric such as Tensar Triax will be placed within the structural section for added stability. Attached is a trench detail for the proposed solution.
For this 65' location between the stairs at 115 Mill Street and the stairs at 117 Mill Street, the City agrees to indemnify Point Arena Water Works for any repair costs, third-party claims or regulatory expenses or penalties incurred by Point Arena Water Works as the result of a complete or partial failure of that portion of the water line resulting solely from said construction during and after the Mill Street Rehabilitation project.
