POINT ARENA CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY
AGENDA ITEM: X B
MEETING DATE: 1/24/2023
TITLE
Resolution 2023-05 Providing a Cost of Living Adjustment
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Approve, Deny, Modify, or Direct Staff
ANALYSIS
The Point Arena Municipal Code charges the City Council with adjustments to compensation schedules of City employees. The last adjustment to the City’s Salary Table occurred in December 2021.
Since that time, inflation and the cost of consumer goods have increased substantially due to supply chain shortages and other challenge. Most significantly, certain sectors of the economy have seen dramatic price increases. The price of gas, a large expense in rural areas, has increased nearly 25% in the past year.
City staff have performed admirably during recent storms and your City Manager believes this Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) is more than deserved. This COLA would apply to all City staff except for your City Manager, who negotiates his salary directly with the Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
A 6.3% COLA will result in approximately $25,000 in increased labor expense.
