POINT ARENA WASTEWATER

TREATMENT FACILITY
451 School St. | PO Box 67 | Point Arena, CA 95468
March 10, 2026
Monthly Department Report
Prepared by: Joe Wilson, Chief Plant Operator of Point Arena Wastewater Treatment Facility Summary / Overview
February 2026 started off dry but quickly turned out really wet. We ended up for the month with 11.45” inches of rain. On 2-24-2026 we had the highest influent flow so far this winter come into the treatment plant, 554,000 gallons of wastewater in 24 hours. Thankfully the rain stopped and let us catch up with the flow into our system. Levels were lower than normal in our lagoons before the big rainstorm. They quickly filled up due to high influent flows. We were running both effluent pumps and still was filling faster than we could pump it out. All said and done we survived it and no major incidents occurred or violations.

Notable Events:

Higher flows into the treatment plant due to all the rain we got in February 2026’.

Maintenance and Repairs:

No major repairs were needed.

Normal maintenance was performed at the Treatment plant and Lift Stations.

Once the rain slows down, we plan to rebuild the pump at cypress meadows lift station. With it raining and unpredictable, I don’t want to rely on one pump. We don’t have a back up pump for the lift station or it would have been rebuilt already.

Safety and Training
Abby needs to be added to our weekly safety meeting list All outstanding assignments need to be finished, send reminder out to everyone.

New assignments need to be signed up for all staff
All completed assignments and certificates are filed at WWTP or City Hall.

No incidents or accidents to report for the month.

Regulatory Compliance
No violations were reported.

Wastewater plant was in compliance.

Next month or the following month the NCRWQCB will be out to perform an inspection on plant and collection system and lift stations.

Environmental / Community Notes:

I have started doing inspections on businesses grease traps. Will continue until all are done. Hope to get more done next month.

Issues / Challenges:

High flows were challenging; we keep it under control.

Safety meetings are going on still, plan to get everyone signed up for more in near future.

Goals / Priorities for Next Month
F.O.G. inspections on grease traps.

More safety meetings for staff.

Regional board site inspection (Lynett Shipsey).

That’s all I have to report for the past Month here at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Thanks,
Joseph Wilson
Chief Plant Operator

Monthly Department Report
Prepared by: Abby Stoffers, Harbor & Pier Technician + Streets & Parks Maintenance Overview / Summary
Pier:

The fleet has had a few windows of calm swell/weather and the hoist seems to be working well. There is one issue with the sheave on the block and it being somewhat loose. This was a new part from Allied Crane and it is being addressed.

Peter, Sean, Doug and I have been training with the hoist and going over other pier operations whenever possible and that is going well. Peter and I spent multiple days greasing and lubing many parts of all 3 hoists..

Also Peter spent a day or more prepping parts of the boat hoist for paint touch up.

Peter and I have also been working on getting the new floating dock and ramp quotes and have been trying to find the right company for the job.

I have been focusing on creating a maintenance and operations manual that will focus on all pier operations but so far I have focused on greasing schedules and how we invoice from the pier.

The new fees have been put into the Point of Sale machine and I will use them going forward.

Fishing Activity and Seasons
● Crab, rockfish and urchin have all been landed last month. ● The crabbing has been slow and the weather has not allowed many windows for the fisherman to go out
● The weekends have been very busy on the pier with lots of tourists and folks fishing from the pier
Operations and Maintenance
Summarize day-to-day work and preventive maintenance.
● Pressure washed floating dock, ramp and many parts of the pier ● Pressure washed concrete garbage receptacles on pier
● Lubed and greased cable and other parts of yellow hoists that needed it ● Greased all zurk fittings on skiff and product hoists Safety and Compliance
Note inspections, hazards addressed, or coordination with other agencies. ● Noted issue with sheave bearing being loose and addressing concern ● Planning to paint pier to show hazard zones where boat hoist and product hoist operate Events and Community Use
List permitted activities, gatherings, or public engagement. ●
Equipment and Facilities
Track equipment conditions and facility needs.
● Need new weedwacker due to old one needing new parts and being out of commission ● Need new gas pressure washer that is powerful enough to work on pier (borrowed Peter’s to do pressure washing)
● The office is looking super cleaned up thanks to a team effort and the tool room is fairly well stocked
Staffing / Training
List staff activity, vacancies, and professional development. ●
Issues / Challenges
Identify problems, risks, or resource needs.
●
Goals / Priorities for Next Month
List the main objectives for the upcoming month.
● Continue training so I can be self sufficient
● Get quotes finalized for new floating dock project
● Lots of weedwacking
● Continue work on operations and maintenance manual and honing in the accounting process for the pier
Streets/Parks:
● Lots of weedwacking, helping with garbage/recycle pickup and bathroom cleaning when needed. ● I went through the downtown park and made a list of possible projects/maint tasks that we could focus on. I also got a quote for more playground woodchips from Denbeste Supplies in Ukiah which despite their higher price per cubic yard are still cheaper than other places due to their proximity and lower delivery cost. I got a quote from Willits power for the new weedwacker that could be shared amongst departments.
