Adoption of Resolution No. 2022-01 (Attachment No. 1) will authorize the submittal of applications to and administration of grant funds from CalRecycle for a period of five years.

FISCAL IMPACT: None.

PREVIOUS RELATED ACTION: On May 2, 2016, the City Council authorized the submittal of grant applications to CalRecycle to obtain 1) Beverage Container Recycling, Local Government Waste Tire Amnesty Grant Funding, and 2) Used Oil Payment Program Grant Funding.

DISCUSSION: CalRecycle offers funding opportunities authorized by legislation to assist public and private entities in the safe and effective management of the waste stream. CalRecycle works with State and local government entities to help achieve waste diversion, recycling, and environmentally preferable purchasing goals. The City has continuously applied for and been awarded grant funds from programs like the Used Oil Payment Program, Beverage Container Recycling, and Local Government Waste Tire Amnesty Program. The City has also received grants to address illegal dumping and homeless encampment abatement through CalRecycle. Lastly, it is anticipated that CalRecycle will provide grant opportunities that may help cities address SB 1383 compliance.

In order to be eligible to receive future grants, CalRecycle requires the adoption of this Resolution by City Council authorizing submittal of applications and administration of grant funds for its various programs. This Resolution will authorize grant submittals to CalRecycle for a period of five years.
