It is recommended that the City Council adopt the following resolution:
RESOLUTION NO. 2022-74 (ATTACHMENT 1) – A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTing $4,000 IN MISCELLANEOUS MINI-GRANT FUNDS FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE library and the Southern California Library Cooperative and amending fy 2021-22 operating budget by increasing revenue estimates and appropriating the same amount EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Pomona Public Library applies for and receives various miscellaneous grant and mini-grant funds throughout the fiscal year to support Library programs and services. The nature and purpose of these funds is further outlined below. In accordance with Sections 37354 & 37355 of the California Government Code, the legislative body may accept or reject any gift, bequest or devise, may to, or for the City.
FISCAL IMPACT: This action is fiscally neutral, as revenue from the grant funds (101-4501-40873-00000) in the amount of $4,000 are offset by appropriations (101-4501-5XXXX-0000) in the same amount within the FY 2021-22 Operating Budget.
DISCUSSION: Pomona Public Library staff are continuously seeking ways to provide patrons and the community with multiple options for access to materials and information, along with experiences for education and entertainment. The Pomona Public Library recently received grant funding from the California State Library to participate in the Zip Books program. Funds from the Zip Books project will be used to order patron requested books from Amazon.com so they can be delivered directly to the patron’s home and will effectively increase the Library’s books and materials budget/collection for the current fiscal year. The Pomona Public Library recently received grant funding from the Southern California Library Cooperative, in collaboration with the California State Library, to participate in the Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros program. Funds from the Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros program will be used to host a multilingual event at the Pomona Public Library.
