A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF POMONA, CALIFORNIA UPHOLDING CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION TO DENY A PUBLIC ART FUND AWARD TO AN APPLICATION FOR PUBLIC ART FOR A PROPOSED PUBLIC ART PIECE (SCULPTURE) TO BE LOCATED AT LINCOLN PARK IN THE CITY OF POMONA WHEREAS, on March 15, 2022, the City launched a Call for Visual Art application process to solicit applications from visual artists and visual arts non-profit organizations and entities to proposed ideas for public art Citywide; WHEREAS, Spectra Company, in association with visual artist Manuelita Brown, submitted an application for a public art piece (sculpture) to be located at Lincoln Park in the City of Pomona; WHEREAS, a portion of the requested funding amount has already been funded by the Spectra Company; WHEREAS, the Cultural Arts Commission considered the application at a Joint Special Meeting of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee and Cultural Arts Commission on August 8, 2022, and denied a Public Art Fund award in its entirety for the proposed application; WHEREAS, the Applicant filed an appeal of the Cultural Arts Commission Decision for City Council consideration; WHEREAS, the Appeal was brought forward by the Planning Division as a Consent Item to the regularly scheduled City Council meeting of September 19, 2022.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Pomona as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council upholds the decision of the Cultural Arts Commission to deny Public Art Fund award to an application for public art for a proposed public art piece (sculpture) to be located at Lincoln Park in the City of Pomona, which was denied on August 8, 2022 at a Joint Special Meeting of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee and the Cultural Arts Commission.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall attest and certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution and it shall become effective immediately upon its approval.
