CCW History in LA County
In April 2016, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s (LASD) entered into an agreement with the Police Department that they would process concealed weapons permit. The Sheriff’s Department agreed to process all applications for licenses, renewal of licenses and/or amendments to licenses to carry a concealed weapon.
On June 23, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that “New York’s proper-cause requirement violated the Fourteenth Amendment in that it prevents law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their right to keep and bea r arms.” Similarly, California law required CCW applicants to show “good cause”
Effective August 1 st, 2022, LASD will no longer process Pomona CCW applications and has cancelled their agreement with the Police Department.
On September 2022 the Police Department presented this topic and our proposed process to the Police Oversight Commission. They had no recommended changes.
