PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
At the direction of the City Council Emergency Sub Committee, beginning with the July 18, 2022 Council meeting, emailed comments will no longer be read into the record during Council meetings. However, they will be included as part of the record/meeting minutes.

Live Comments were as follows:

Elise Tsai Pavy announced Shen Yun Performing Artists are coming to Pomona College in Claremont and invited everyone to go watch their two-hour long family friendly performance that displays Chinese culture.

Larry Ortega, Pomona resident, discussed the need to bring fiber optics to Pomona to alleviate the digital divide, despite the FCC claiming fiber optics is not needed.

Brent Parker expressed disappointment with the City choosing to put limits on short-term residential rentals, especially with commercial advertising of the rentals. He stated he believes it is a violation of first amendment rights, and that it is unfair for the City to keep "no panhandling" signs posted.

Yesenia Miranda Meza, president of Pomona United for Stable Housing, discussed the television feed from the previous City Council meeting stopped when a break took place, and never resumed; for transparency purposes, the full meeting should be made available.

She also discussed reasons for a need to raise the relocation assistance granted by the City's housing urgency ordinance.

Ronald Candelaria, resident of Pomona, stated he is being evicted by the property owner with a retaliatory 60-day notice. While he and his family do not want to leave the City, the relocation cost to stay in the City is not affordable even with the assistance granted by the urgency ordinance. He requested the relocation assistance be raised.

Grace Candelaria, resident of Pomona, discussed the emotional distress she has experienced due to the eviction her family is facing, and requested the City continue working with Pomona United for Stable Housing.

Maria Garcia, member of Gente Organizada, expressed concern for the violence occurring throughout the City and lack of opportunities for the youth in Pomona. She requested the City acknowledge Gente Organizada and collaborate with the organization to find solutions to these challenges.

Miranda Sheffield, expressed concern that the television stream of the last council meeting went dark and was disappointed in the Mayor's actions in response to a resident using expletives during the meeting.

City of Pomona Page 4
City Council / Housing Authority / Meeting Minutes February 27, 2023 Successor Agency to the
Redevelopment Agency
Ivan Hernandez expressed concern over the lack of response from City leadership to address violence against youth, and frustration with the City for not collaborating with Gente Organizada. He requested that the City begin long-term investments for the youth.

Ellie Rae O'Bosky gave thanks to everyone that showed up to the meeting. She discussed her vision for Pomona's approach to housing security, as everyone is deserving of housing security: meeting people's basic needs will alleviate addiction, crime and sex work, as those are typically trauma responses.

Orlando Arias-Pulido expressed the need for the City to invest in other solutions to address violence that does not involve over-policing. He requested the City to work with Gente Organizada to bring forth solutions that will better the lives and opportunities of youth in Pomona.

Elinor Crescenzi stated the disagreement expressed by an audience member in the last meeting was silent, non-vocal, and yet it led to an escalated confrontation from Council.

She stated the City has done no real work towards examining creative solutions relating to de-funding the police.
