The Pomona Police Department’s K9 Program is vital to providing effective law enforcement services to the community. A police canine is an option used to safely and effectively locate wanted persons and de-escalate situations. Police canines and their officer partner receive extensive training to develop skills necessary to be successful. The use of canines in law enforcement is subject to strict guidelines and regulations to ensure safety and professionalism.
Friends of Pomona Police K9 Foundation will purchase this canine and make the donation to the City (Attachment No.2). This donation comes with a one-year warranty on the health of the canine. In the event of any medical condition that disqualifies the canine from service within the first year, the Police Department will be able to make an exchange. Once the Police Department takes possession of the canine, the City will be responsible for its physical and emotional care.
COUNCIL PRIORITIES & GOALS:
This item supports the 2022-2023 City Council Priority 1: Fiscal and Operational Responsibility – Goal B: Improve efficiency and effectiveness of City services to businesses and residents.
