If during production an unsatisfactory mix is produced, cease production until a satisfactory test batch, as described herein, is produced.
When a batch plant is used, adding fiber per the manufacturer’s recommendation to the heated aggregate prior to introduction of the asphalt binder or to the aggregate in the weigh hopper, and increasing both dry and wet mixing times ensure that the fiber is uniformly distributed before the injection of asphalt cement into the mixture. Mix the aggregate and fibers dry for a minimum of 10 seconds after introduction of t he fibers. The Laborator y may increase this mixing time, if satisfactory results are not obtained.
When a drum mix type plant is used, contact Forta Corporatio n for assistance with quality control of fiber loading. Inject fibers through the RAP collar by placing 1-pound bags of fibers on the RAP belt or by feeding them through a bl ower tube and feeding of fibers with the rate the plant is producing asphalt mix per the Specifications.
