SUBJECT: DETERMINE THE TERMS OF TWO (2) OF THE POLICE OVERSIGHT COMMISSIONERS TO BE TWO (2) YEAR TERMS PURSUANT TO ORDINANCE NO. 4333 RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council determine the terms of two (2) of the new commissioners of the Police Oversight Commission to be two (2) year terms pursuant to Section 2-654 of Ordinance No. 4333.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
At the October 16, 2023 City Council Meeting, the Council approved the appointment of five (5) commissioners to the new Police Oversight Commission. Terms of office were not determined at that meeting and must be established now.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this action.
DISCUSSION:
Ordinance No. 4333, Sec. 2-654 states “Each commissioner shall serve a term of four (4) years and may be reappointed by a majority vote of the City Council, except that the initial terms for two of the members, as determined by the City Council, shall be two (2) years to ensure continuity. Mid-term vacancies shall be filled by a majority vote of the City Council.” Prepared by:
